Vršovické divadlo MANA

The MANA theatre in Vršovice is one of the youngest theatres in Prague. Although the theatre has been in existence for more than 90 years, the new artistic programme of the theatre has only been developing for a few seasons. At the centre of this artistic direction is always the actor and his statement about the world we live in. Despite the great variety of genres, the productions have one thing in common – a strong civic commitment. The dramaturgy unfolds along several lines. One of the most significant is the exploration of the phenomenon of Czechness through productions that touch on key historical stages of our development or key figures of our culture and their works. In particular, this line can help young people and students in their orientation in history and literature. Another key theme is the question of the responsibility of the human individual for his or her own life and the exploration of the impact of our individual choices on our personal microcosms and on the world beyond our private universes. In our performances, we have intergenerational dialogues, exploring how far selfishness leads us, and questioning whether effective love of neighbor and trans-personal ideals are still valid variables. Most of our performances also provide a platform for civic dialogue, which is often part of our performances.
